About Avondale Retreat
Our wonderfully spacious retreat centre is immersed in nature, surrounded by beautiful woodland walks, the gorgeous Avonmore River, and just a short drive from stunning Glendalough National Park. It is the perfect space to create, to evolve, and to enjoy Wicklow, The Garden of Ireland.
Avondale Retreat is a huge space renovated lovingly to comfortably accommodate 20 or more people. There is over an acre of landscaped mature gardens with beautiful tall trees and luscious greenery.
We’ve also recently erected a large geodesic dome in the grounds to act as a larger studio space capable of hosting 20 yoga mats within it’s spherical hug.
No city pollution means gorgeous fresh air and an abundance of stars on a clear night while by day, there are stunning views across the tranquility of the Avonmore River valley.
Guest will enjoy spacious bedrooms and several living rooms, chill out areas, a cosy open fire with plenty of fuel, a large (12-mat) indoor studio with bamboo flooring for yoga/meditation/mindfulness/group lectures etc. and wonderful views across the Valley outside. Please note that a small supermarket (open 6.30am to 10pm), restaurants and pubs are in Rathdrum town just 5 to 8 minutes walk from the Retreat.
Built in 1902 the original accommodation boasts many beautiful original features and has been lovingly renovated over several years to host families or large groups needing the perfect escape from their daily routine. There is an added extension which captures morning sunrise from your room beautifully.
Explore gardens, with running stream, meet the friendly horses next door and bask in the tranquility of the morning sunrise while sipping coffee on our outdoor decking or our sundrenched breakfast/dining room.
Spend the days hiking in Glendalough, visiting, Avondale House (home of Charles Parnell), Powerscourt Waterfall and Gardens or leisurely woodland and river walks surrounding Avondale Retreat.

*Infrared saunas are known for their powerfully detoxifying effects so if you are not used to taking saunas in general, please limit first usage to 15-20 minutes at circa 50 degrees celsius. At first usage you may feel quite tired afterwards so before bed is probably the best time to make use of the sauna.
Yes. You do not need to bring towels or linen. This is all provided as standard.
Retreat leaders go free. Often the retreat leader will decide to make use of the cabin or studio apartment as they require time away from the main group to plan activities and rebalance their own energies after giving so much to the group.
