15 reasons to Meditate

  1. Still the fluctuations of the mind, (Yoga Sutras of Patanjali: I, 2)
  2. Serenity, peace of mind
  3. Quietens the over busy brain buzz
  4. Makes room to focus on what’s really important
  5. Long term meditators deal with old destructive patterns and addictions more effectively
  6. Frees space in the body, allowing you to tune into your body’s natural rhythms especially the breath
  7. Lets you notice more of your surroundings
  8. Brings focus to your breathing – a great tool for high performance
  9. Leads to tapping in to infinite intelligence
  10. Clearer thought patterns
  11. Less easily distracted – clarity of mind therefore ability to focus in tense and high volume activity zones
  12. Expands self-awareness and consciousness
  13. Increases your energy. Less expending energy on brain buzz and useless chatter
  14. Improved concentration
  15. Tap into your Theta brainwaves: expand your creativity.

In addition to the above benefits scientific studies are now showing amazing results from meditation. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22582738

Meditation opens up new neuro-pathways that have been conditioned to route you up to your age old worrying/anxiety techniques.

Dedicating just 15 minutes a day to going into your own silence space can help you at least gather your thoughts even if it does not eliminate them entirely. This lets any manic planning and over-thinking take a slight break.

Watching your thoughts, almost as an outsider, can help you realise what is occupying your headspace and whether you would actually prefer to change the direction of these thought patterns … are they serving you?

Practising meditation gives you time to yourself that otherwise you may not have been afforded. Taking the time out to sit (even without proper meditation technique) can of itself be a lovely way to find peace in your day. And if you are someone who feels stressed about the lack of meditation you are currently doing, rest assured that most people that have meditated during their life will often be doing it without even realising it. Soak up the quiet moments that arise at any time.
